The picture of Dorian Gray
The novel begins when Lord Henry Wotton watches his friend Basil Hallward painting the portrait of a beautiful young man named Dorian Gray. Dorian arrives shortly after and met Lord Henry. Lord Henry talk about their own idea of the world and begins to convince Dorian that beauty is the only thing worth having in life and want the portrait Basil is painting, age in place. Under the influence of Lord Henry, Dorian begins to explore his senses. One night he discovers Sibyl Vane, an actress who works in a seedy theater performing works of Shakespeare. Dorian proposes marriage. Sibyl has plans to his mother and brother, referring to her fiance as "Prince Charming." His brother, James, warns that if "Prince Charming" ever hurts you, he will kill him. Dorian invites Basil and Lord Henry to see Sibyl perform in Romeo and Juliet representation. But Sibyl, overcome with the emotion of the upcoming marriage and love Dorian, loses interest in the theater, so badly that night plays Juliet. After the show, Dorian rejects Sibyl saying her beauty lay in its art and, as he could not act, then Dorian no longer interested in it. Coldly, decides to break the marriage vow and not see Sibyl. Back home, note that Basil box has changed, so that he realizes that his wish has come true: the portrait is now a devil.
